Chinese New Year (Friday January 27, 2017)
Meadow Brook will celebrate Chinese on Friday January 27th. Families are invited to join in the school-wide celebration. Please sign up to volunteer here. Kdg.-2nd grades will spend the early morning rotating to various activity stations and attend a 40-minute assembly at 10:30 a.m. 3rd-4th grades will attend a 40-minute assembly at 11:25 a.m., then, after lunch, rotate to various activity stations through the afternoon
Did you know? The actual date of Chinese/Lunar New Year for 2017, is Saturday, January 28th. The Spring Festival is an entire 15 days long, ending with the Lantern Festival on Saturday, February 11th. Lunar New Year is celebrated by many Asian cultures including Korean, Vietnamese, & Filipino. Also, the dates of these holidays change each year, due to the fact that they are based on the Lunar calendar.
At Meadow Brook, the PTO helps support a school-wide celebration of Chinese New Year including traditional Chinese cultural games, art, dancing, cooking, crafts, lion dance performance, martial arts show, and dragon dance.
